Debunking Obama Smears (Part TWO)
Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 03:32:56 AM PDT
If you have not already read it, please see Part ONE for statements 1-16. If you have, feel free to bypass my usual disclaimers and skip below the fold for statements 17-38.
My boss' brother-in-law is one of those wacky "Obama will give our country to Al Kay-Duh, and hey, have you seen that great New Yorker cover yet?" types, and he occasionally sends him those poorly written bastions of right wing talking points, the anti-Obama e-mails that make us all wonder who in the world would be foolish enough to believe them. And, as any good employee would (any good employee with as little life as I have), I've taken it upon myself to denounce the lies and expose the truth. Huzzah!
This diary is the second in an irregular series of diaries I will publish as my boss sends me stuff to debunk. This one was REALLY long, and while I compiled the debunkment pretty quickly, I didn't think to record the websites I used as references. Since I've finally finished re-researching, here is the remaining half of the completely refuted e-mail. Everybody ready? Okiedokie. Here we go...
Debunking Obama Smears (Part ONE)
Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 03:42:16 AM PDT
UPDATE: First time on the rec list! I'm flattered and overwhelmed, and a little giddy about it. If you have any more of smear-merchant-spam you'd like me to debunk, please e-mail it to me and I'll get to it when I can. THANK YOU ALL!
I've edited my diary title per a commenter's suggestion. Original title was "Debunking my Boss - 38 of Obama's "Not Exactly Statements" (Part ONE)"
My boss' brother-in-law is one of those kooky "Obama is the muslim Anti-Christ" types, and he regularly sends him those odious, far-right, unresearched, gossip-mongering, slanderous e-mails we all hate so much. As the resident political junkie in the office, I often find myself being asked by my boss to verify the ::shudder:: authenticity of the e-mails.
So I decided to feature my findings in a diary. Huzzah! This diary will be the first in an irregular series of diaries I will publish as my boss sends me stuff to debunk. This one was REALLY long, and while I compiled the debunkment pretty quickly, I didn't think to record the websites I used as references. So since it's taking me a while to re-research the links I use to back up my rebuttal, I'm going to post this in two parts, 16 statements each. Everybody ready? Okiedokie. Here we go...
One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, WAR
Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 04:07:20 AM PDT
I'll be the first one to admit that I'm not perfect. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. Some really bad decisions that were occasionally fueled by one too many tequila shots. Hey, who hasn't got a story in their past about something stupid they did after tossing back a few?
But these guys take the cake.
Monday Mourning - A Reflection on What We've Lost
Mon Sep 17, 2007 at 03:45:30 AM PDT
I felt a funeral in my brain,
And mourners, to and fro,
Kept treading, treading, till it seemed
That sense was breaking through.
And when they all were seated,
A service like a drum
Kept beating, beating, till I thought
My mind was going numb
And then I heard them lift a box,
And creak across my soul
With those same boots of lead, again.
Then space began to toll
As all the heavens were a bell,
And being, but an ear,
And I and Silence some strange Race
Wrecked, solitary, here.

September 21st, 2007 will be the first Iraq Moratorium Day; an opportunity for everyone who opposes the continued occupation of Iraq to do something out of the ordinary to give voice to that opposition. If you are not familiar with the project, then I urge you to read Meteor Blades' diary Iraq Moratorium: Not Your Parents’ Antiwar Movement.
I will be taking this opportunity to express the mourning I feel for all that we in this world have lost.
Toy Soldiers protest the war
Fri Aug 17, 2007 at 04:21:14 AM PDT
As I mentioned in my last diary, I am planning to distribute information on Iraq Moratorium Day (September 21st, 2007) in memory of those who have died. If anyone else is interested in doing the same, I would urge you to go to the official Iraq Moratorium website and sign their pledge to participate, and to visit the sites listed below the fold for reading material.
In my search to find others in my area (Miami) who will be participating, I came across a clever and unique idea for protesting the war- by using toy soldiers.

Please Help, Iraq Moratorium Day - Sept 21st, 2007
Fri Aug 10, 2007 at 05:03:30 AM PDT
I'm a lurker. I don't post diaries, I rarely post comments, but I often answer polls, and I read every front page and rec'd article (and their linked-to articles) every weekday.
I'm not much of a writer, and I don't really have the time most days to research and post a well-thought out diary. I also don't really have time most days to be "active". Sometimes my outrage will move me to sign a petition, or call a politician, or write a letter to my local paper (a move made extremely easy by the Democratic party's Letter to the Editor feature on their website), but I rarely do more than that.
I know that what I do is more than what most in this country do, but I watch with admiration the efforts of the most active members of the Daily Kos community and feel ashamed that I do not do more.
On September 21st, 2007 I am stepping up. I am asking for your help to do so. Please read on...
House, Senate Reach Agreement on Patriot Act UPDATED 2
Thu Dec 08, 2005 at 09:23:25 AM PDT
The House and Senate have reached an agreement on the
Patriot Act. However, Republicans Larry Craig of Idaho, John Sununu of New Hampshire and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Democrats Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Dick Durbin of Illinois and Ken Salazar of Colorado have threatened a filibuster, claiming that this version does not include adequate safeguards to protect our constitutional freedoms. The ACLU has also denounced it, calling it a "sham compromise".
The Senate is expected to vote on the compromise next week.
